The first time I saw "Transformers The Movie", I was in 4th grade, and although at that time I only knew was Optimus Prime and Megatron, I was nevertheless awed by it. I salivated further when one of my classmates then brought StarScream, Scavenger, LaserBeak in the class. It was a mint conditioned Hasbro original toys,(not Chinese knock offs) I told him this would make a kick ass live motion movie, should they get it right.
A couple of decades later(man I sound old ;)), it's in the silver screen and directed by my favorite action director Michael Bay. I love this guy, his penchant for blowing up things, breath taking cinematography, and quick camera movements are the things I expect. I was not disappointed. All the elements of a Michael Bay film were there, plus with the help of ILM you just might swear that they've created an actual Transformer.
The movie was in a frantic pace, even the fight scenes and of course mayhem and destruction was abundant. I was kept on the edge of my seat, and occasionally laugh with some of the lighter comedic moments. Bay wanted to make it more realistic than the ones depicted in the cartoons which were nearly human like. Once the transformers transform back to their robot form, it feels and look very alien, since that's what they are. Getting the realistic part the movie also upgraded some of its vehicles to make it more current and more plausible:Like Megatron, instead of being a gun, was a spaceship, StarScream was upgraded from F18 - F22 Raptor, and the most visible one: BumbleBee instead of the more lovable Beetle was a hotrod Camarro, some legal and marketing issues were reportedly involved.
I enjoyed it a lot, I never did mind about the story line, for me I came to watch giant robots and Bay didn't disappoint. The critics are so hard about it, and they were right the story line was so thin, it would have shut those critics up if there involved no humans. But seriously, like all Bay movies you don't come to his movies and come out enlightened or expect an Oscar like performances, what you get is an enjoyable movie that you'd watch over and over again.
Since the transformers have been unraveled the sequel will undoubtedly be anticipated more and of course more transformers.
